Breakdown of Bobcat Tractor Implements and Attachments
Your compact tractor is a workhorse when it’s paired with the right tools. But how do you know which ones you need? And what if you buy the wrong one? Whatever you’re working on, there’s a tractor implement out there for you. Let’s talk Bobcat® implements and attachments.
Tractor Implements vs Tractor Attachments
While we’re here, let’s clear up some implement / attachment confusion. Tractor implements and attachments aren’t the same. And tractor attachments and loader attachments aren’t the same, either.
In general, an implement is anything that goes on the back of your tractor (typically on the three-point hitch). An attachment is anything that’s attached to the front-end loader of the tractor with a Bob-Tach™ mounting system.
Where Can You Find Attachments? Our attachments include a bucket, a set of pallet forks, and a grapple bucket (to name a few). If you’re interested in tractor attachments, we suggest calling your nearest location.
How to Pick the Right Implement
Not sure what you need? Here’s a checklist to start with:
- What’s the job?
- What’s the season?
- What’s your budget?
- How long do you plan to use it?
- How big is your space?
- Is it compatible with your tractor?
Popular Tractor Implements
Box Blades
On bumpy driveways or uneven ground, a box blade is what you need. It’s perfect for leveling, grading, and doing some general tidying up around your property. Bobcat box blades have reversible cutting edges, and they come in three different sizes (48”, 60”, and 72”).
Tillers
If you’re big into gardening, or if you’re using your tractor on a farm, a tiller’s pretty much the perfect implement for you. It churns up hard dirt and preps it for planting. It works forward and backward, and the Bobcat tiller implement has an adjustable depth up to 7 inches. This one’s also available in 48”, 60” and 72” widths.
3-Pt. Rear Angle Blades
Snowy driveway? Or uneven dirt? We’d check out the rear angle blade. It’s affordable. It rotates the full 360 degrees. It can adjust to the angle you need. And it comes in 60”, 72” and 84” widths.
Ballast Box
The rear ballast box adds weight to the back of the tractor. Consider a ballast box when lifting heavy loads with your front-end loader. The weight of the ballast box will help to keep your tractor stable. If you’re using these two attachments, always operate the tractor with the loader in the lowest position.
Quick Hitch
This will save you a lot of time when you’re trading between implements. With a quick hitch, you can easily unhook and hook up implements. All you have to do is back up to it, hook on the implement, latch the lock levers, and drive off. Even if you have a quick hitch, don’t forget to manually hook up the PTO.
Tractor Backhoe
If you’re digging trenches, planting trees, or installing a drainage system with your tractor, at some point, you’re going to need a backhoe attachment. Like an implement, the backhoe will attach to the 3-point hitch on the rear of your tractor. With it, you can dig up to 96 inches (depending on how big your tractor is).
Note: The backhoe attachment is specific to your tractor model and requires additional bracketing for installation.
Specialized Tractor Implements
Post-Hole Auger
This auger implement is great at installing fence posts and planting trees. It will quickly dig a perfectly uniform hole. And it’s built to be used for a long time.
Finish Mower
A finish mower will give you a super polished, professional-looking lawn. It has adjustable cutting heights and large cutting widths. In short, if you need to turn your tractor into a lawn mower, this is a good one to check out.
Landscape Tine Rake
A landscape tine rake smooths soil, collects debris, and prepares seedbeds. This one has a 360-degree rotation with multiple forward and reverse settings and three available widths (60”, 72”, and 84”). This is also a good implement for spreading gravel.
Snow Blower
If you already have a nice tractor (especially if it’s got a cab), a snow blower implement is a good purchase. This will help you take care of snow on your driveways and paths. The chute is adjustable, so you can control where the snow is thrown. Like most of our tractor implements, this one is available in multiple widths: 50”, 60”, 66”, and 74”.
What If You Get the Wrong One?
You can’t go wrong with implements. You never know what projects are going to come up, so it’s good to have the right implement for the right job. In general, we’d say: the more implements you have, the better prepared you’ll be.
